Harrier XC Coaches

John Darrow
Coach Darrow has coached the boys and girls cross-country and track teams at Notre Dame School in Clarendon Hills since 2009. Ten of his Notre Dame cross-country teams have qualified for the IESA State Championship meet, winning multiple State trophies. Notre Dame has placed in the top ten teams in State on six occasions, including two IESA State Championships. He has also coached 17 individual qualifiers for the State meet. His teams have won four IESA Sectional Championships. Notre Dame competes in the Suburban Parochial League (SPL). During Coach Darrow’s tenure, his teams have won 16 SPL XC Championships and 15 SPL Track Division championships. On the individual level, he has coached one individual IESA State Champion, 14 All-State runners, 12 SPL XC individual champions, and 8 SPL Track Athletes of the Year. In 2020, Coach Darrow received the ITCCCA Distinguished Middle School Coach Award, a lifetime achievement recognition awarded by the Illinois Track & Cross Country Coaches Association.
Jeannie Sullivan
Jeannie has been a competitive runner on the track, roads, and cross country for over 30 years. Her love of running began in middle school in southeastern Michigan by default when she got cut from the basketball team but then broke the gym class 8th grade mile school record. In high school, she quickly became one of the top cross country runners in the State and competed in all track distance events. She continued her career at the University of Michigan earning a 2nd team All-Big Ten Conference award in XC and academic All-American awards in indoor/outdoor track and XC, ultimately finishing her collegiate career in 2002 as XC team captain with a team Big Ten Conference Championship, regional team runner-up, and top 15 team placement in the NCAA. She continued sub-elite post-collegiate road racing for the Impala Racing Team in San Francisco and now DW Running in Chicago where a recent highlight was placing 4th in the State of Illinois in the 2018 Chicago Marathon.

Steve Driscoll
Coach Driscoll teaches 7th grade ELA and has coached the girls and boys' cross country teams at Gurrie Middle School in La Grange since 2006. Gurrie joined the IESA in 2011 and has since coached eleven state qualifying teams, ten All-State finishers, and won four State trophies in the past five years. His approach is to “teach the sport and coach the person”. Culture, teamwork, and progress are the foundation of his philosophy with a focus on fun. He believes that cross country training is the groundwork for all sports and encourages young athletes to embrace stamina, speed, recovery, strength and nutrition training for life-long health.​​​​

Josh Vance
Coach Vance teaches Art and coaches the boys cross country / track & field teams at Westview Hills. The boys cross country team has qualified for state 12 years in a row. They won their first state championship in 2024 and finished as state runner-up in 2025. Coach Vance ran competitively in middle school, high school, and college and feels fortunate that many of his college running teammates are also coaches in the suburbs. His coaching focus is teaching our young runners to set goals and help them work towards achieving them. Mental toughness and sportsmanship are prioritized during our season. We have created a team atmosphere where every runner feels welcome and prepared to succeed while having fun and learning a new sport.​​​​
Ryan Jaskiewicz
Ryan Jaskiewicz brings a wealth of experience and passion for running to the West Suburban Harriers. His running journey began earnestly in 2007 with the Chicago Marathon, and he has since participated in well over 15 marathons, including a personal best of 2:26 in Berlin in 2022. Ryan’s dedication to the sport is evident in his personal records, with a 5K best of 15:07 and a half marathon time of 69:17. In 2024, he won the USATF Masters Indoor National Championship in the 3000m with a time of 8:56, achieved at age 40. He continues to compete and improve with the DWRunning Elite Team.Ryan focuses on fostering a supportive team environment, emphasizing consistent training, proper technique, and mental strength. His goal is to help each athlete achieve their personal best while developing a lifelong love for running. Outside of his running achievements, Ryan is a devoted father of three and the founder of a finance company. He is eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with the West Suburban Harriers, inspiring and guiding young runners on their athletic journeys.​

Audrey Borling
Audrey is thrilled to join the Harriers coaching staff. Coach Borling currently teaches and coaches cross country at Gurrie Middle School in La Grange. She discovered her love of running and racing at Downers Grove North High School, then competed for Indiana University in both cross country and track. While at Indiana, Coach Borling earned All-Big Ten honors in cross country, and was a Big Ten champion and All-American in the 3000-meter steeplechase on the track, where she also competed in the 1500 and 5000 meters. She has run several marathons and half-marathons post-collegiately and has hopes of running another marathon in the future. Her passion is now coaching young athletes to foster their love of this incredible sport and build relationships with teammates!​
Jason Wagner
Jason Wagner has been a competitive endurance athlete for 35 years. A product of Joe Newton’s Long Green Line, the legendary York High School cross-country and track coach and 1988 Olympic middle-distance coach, Jason is a 2x IHSA State cross-country champion (Top-7 member of ’91 and ’92 squads). Other athletic achievements include: All-American status for cycling at the University of Wisconsin in 1998, rank 11th in the US; 12x American Birkebeiner cross-country ski finisher; 12x Chicago Marathon finisher; 1x Boston Marathon finisher; and 1x Ironman Wisconsin finisher. Jason is currently the XC Coordinator at St. Francis Xavier and has been part of Coach John Mulholland’s cross-country and track programs for the past 7 years as an Assistant Coach. ‘Coaching today’s generation of young runners is just a small way to say Thank You to all the great coaches and athletes that were such a positive influence on my endurance activities and successes.’​​​

Sophie Abitz
Sophie is a junior at Hinsdale Central where she competes on the cross country and track teams. Sophie joined the West Suburban Harriers in 6th grade and has participated every year since. She is a graduate of Clarendon Hills Middle School, where she ran both track and cross country. Sophie is super excited to be back coaching this year!

Marin Backus
Marin Backus is currently a sophomore at Hinsdale Central where she runs both cross country and track. Marin has also competed in several USATF and Footlocker cross country races. Marin has had success on the track as well including the Wisco Mile, Magis Mile, and the Chicago Twilight 5k. As an 8th grader at CHMS, Marin achieved a time of 5:18 for the 1600M. Marin’s love for running has grown so much over the past three years. She ranwith Harriers for two years and is very excited to be returning as a coach!

Cameron Bruce
Cameron is currently a senior at IMG Academy in Florida, competing on the cross country and track teams. A graduate of Notre Dame School, she enjoyed success in cross country and track in the Suburban Parochial League (SPL). In 2022, Cameron was voted SPL Track Co-Athlete of the Year in recognition of her league championships in the 800M Run, 400M Run, and 400M Relay, and SPL runner up finish in the 1600M Relay. She was a three-time IESA State Cross Country Meet qualifier, including the 2021 IESA State team that placed 7th in the State.

Vivian Comes
Vivian is currently a sophomore at LT where she participated on the cross country and track teams. Vivian fell in love with running in 6th grade when she joined Gurrie Middle School’s cross country team. After her first season, she joined Harriers to gain extra coaching and experience and continued throughout her 8th grade year. She qualified for state in 7th and 8th grade for her middle school and enjoyed running alongside her Harrier teammates at the national CCCNYC in Kentucky.

Joey Costello
Joey is currently a junior at Hinsdale Central High School. He is a member of the Cross Country and Track teams. He was an alternate for the HC team that competed at the IHSA state championship meet. Joey graduated from CHMS, where he competed on the Cross Country and Track teams.

Kyle Doorhy
Kyle currently attends the University of Alabama. He is a graduate of Hinsdale Central High School where he competed on the cross country and track teams. Kyle holds PRs of 1:56 for 800M and 4:27 for 1600M. Kyle was a member of the Hinsdale Central State Champion 4x800 relay team. He is also one of the current record holders of the HC freshman indoor 4x800 record. Previously, Kyle competed for the Notre Dame cross country team where he ran on a State podium team. This will be his 5th year coaching the Harriers.
Quinn Doorhy
Quinn currently attends the University of Alabama. He attended Hinsdale Central where he was a member of the Cross Country and Track teams. He is a graduate of Notre Dame School, where he competed on the Cross Country and Track teams, earning SPL All-Conference Honors and qualifying for the IESA State Championship Meet. Quinn is really excited to help the younger kids love running like he does.

Molly Gilmartin
Molly is a senior at Hinsdale Central where she runs on the track team. Molly has qualified for the IHSA State Track championship in multiple events. A graduate of Notre Dame School, Molly participated in cross country and track from 5th-8th grade. In 2022, Molly was voted Suburban Parochial League (SPL) Track Co-Athlete of the Year in recognition of her league championships in the 75M Dash, 100M Dash, and 400M Relay. In addition to running, Molly likes basketball, tumbling, volleyball, and cheerleading. She is looking forward to coaching younger students and hopes to instill a love of healthy competition in the aspiring athlete.

Kathy Gu
Kathy is a junior at Hinsdale Central High School. She has been participating in both cross country and track since middle school, and she will be on the Varsity track team and Junior Varsity cross country team this year. Kathy loves cheering on her teammates during meets, and can’t wait to do the same for the Harriers runners!

Grace Gruber
Grace is currently a senior at Hinsdale Central where she runs cross country and track. She also ran for Clarendon Hills Middle School. Grace loves running and her team and is excited to help this summer, it will be her 4th year coaching the Harriers.

Will Heintskill
Will resides in Hinsdale, where he attended Monroe Elementary and Clarendon Hills Middle School. He is currently a senior at Hinsdale Central, where he competes on the cross-country and track teams. As a freshman, he placed 8th at the West Suburban Silver fresh-soph conference championship. Will began running cross-country in sixth grade at CHMS and continued there through eighth grade. Will joined the West Suburban Harriers in 2021.

Bob Johnson
Bob is a senior at Benet Academy where he competes on the cross country and track teams. He was an alternate on the Benet XC team that competed at the IHSA state championship meet, and he also earned All-Conference honors. Bob is a graduate of St. Isaac Jogues where he competed on the track and cross country teams from 5th to 8th grade. He also enjoys golf and sailing during the summer months. Participating in the Harriers program helped Bob improve his running performance and find the sense of community that running can provide. He is really looking forward to helping out at the camps this summer.

Elliot Kotleba
Elliot is currently a senior at Hinsdale Central where he competes on the cross country and track teams. He attended CHMS, where he competed in cross country, track, and volleyball. Elliot also plays competitive soccer. Elliot has enjoyed his time with the Harriers, and looks forward to continuing to coach the young runners.

Johnny Krueger
Johnny is currently a junior at Hinsdale Central where he runs cross country and track. He is a graduate of Clarendon Hills Middle School, where he won back-to-back cross-country conference championships. JHe is excited to meet the kids and have another great summer with them. This will be Johnny’s 4th summer with Harriers.

Cole Levin
Cole is a senior at Hinsdale Central where he competes on the cross country and track teams. He was an alternate of the HC team that went to the IHSA state championship meet. Cole has earned All-Conference awards in both cross country and track as a freshman and sophomore. Cole graduated from Butler Junior High, where he competed on the cross country and track teams.
Daniel Lewis
Daniel is a senior at Nazareth Academy, where he competes on the cross country and track teams. Daniel was a three-time qualifier for the IHSA State XC 2A Championship Meet and earned ESCC All-Conference honors four times. He attended St. Frances Xavier School where he ran cross country and track from 5th to 8th grade. Daniel finished 9th at the 2021 IESA Class A State Championship Meet, earning All-State Honors. As a 6th grader, he finished 50th at the 2019 IESA Class A State Championship Meet. Daniel won both the 2021 individual SPL cross country championship and the 2021 Sectional individual championship.

Max Lowe
Max currently attends Loras College, where he is on the cross country and track teams. This past XC season, Max ran 26:35 for the 8k and 15:52 in the 5k. He is a graduate of Hinsdale Central and was a member of their XC and track teams. He has lifetime PRs of 1:59 in the 800m, 4:25 in the 1600m and 14:54 in the 3 mile. He is excited to return again this summer to help coach the Harriers!

Audrey McCarty
Audrey is a senior at Lyons Township High School in the fall. She ran cross country at Saint Francis Xavier grade school 5th-8th grade, where she was on the IESA State team throughout her time there. She placed in the top 25 in the IESA Class A State Championship meet and led her team to a second-place finish in 2021. She is focusing on soccer in high school, where she competes on a national level with Chicago Inter. She has coached the Junior Harriers and the Harriers the last two years. She is excited to be back coaching the Harriers this summer.

Noah Mokhtarian
Noah is currently a junior at Hinsdale Central where he competes on the cross country and track teams. He is a graduate of CHMS where he participated in track, cross country and volleyball. Running with the Harriers has been a great experience and he is excited to help support the Junior Harriers as a coach this summer.

Sophia Molfese
Sophia is currently a senior at Hinsdale Central High School. She began running cross country in 8th grade and since then has continued to run both track and cross country at HCHS. Her favorite part of running is her team and she hopes to foster a love for both the sport and team aspects of cross country in younger runners. Previously she coached the West Suburban Harriers camp in the fall and is excited to do it again this summer!
John Mowrer
John is currently a junior at Dayton University. He is a graduate of Nazareth Academy, where he ran cross country in the fall and played lacrosse in the spring. John previously competed at Notre Dame School, where he raced on a team that placed 3rd in the State. He is really looking forward to helping out this summer at the camp. This will be his 4th year coaching the Harriers.

Olivia Mowrer
Olivia has helped coaching the Harriers for four years now. She is a graduate of Notre Dame School where she competed in both cross country and track since 5th grade. She continued to run cross country her freshman year at Nazareth Academy and returned to Notre Dame to help coach the cross country team in 2023 and 2024. She is now a sophomore at Clemson University where she is majoring in mechanical engineering and she is really looking forward to coaching and having the opportunity to share her love of running with the athletes again this summer.

Sarah Owen
Sarah is a senior at Nazareth Academy. She has run cross country for the past six years, beginning at Saint Francis Xavier where she was a member of the girls team that placed 5th in State. She currently competes in both cross country and soccer for Nazareth. She loves the sport of cross country so much and getting the opportunity to share it with others is what makes her so excited to be coaching again this summer!

Julia Parkes
Julia is a senior at Nazareth Academy and competes on the cross country and track teams. Julia started running with track during 7th grade at St. Francis Xavier and discovered her real passion for running during 8th grade cross country. Julia competed at the IHSA State cross country meet the past two years for Nazareth, and was a part of the track 4x800m state qualifying relay. She joined the Harriers in 8th grade and is so excited to coach again this summer!”

Finn Richards
Finn is a senior at Benet Academy. Last fall, Finn was IHSA Class 2A State Cross Country Champion, winning with a time of 14:21. Finn started running at St. Isaac Jogues, competing in the Suburban Parochial League and winning the championship race as a 5th and 6th grader. He is now a member of the Benet Academy Cross Country and Track Teams and the Men's Swim team. Finn was the varsity ESCC Conference Champion for Benet in 2023 and 2024. Finn was named the Most Valuable Runner at Benet for the 2022, 2023 and 2024 seasons. In track, Finn's 1600M PR is 4:09 and 9:22 for 3200 meters. Finn is very excited to help young athletes learn how to be their best self on and off the track.

Ella Satre
Ella is a junior at Hinsdale Central High School. Ella has qualified for the IHSA cross country state meet for the past three years. She participates in both varsity track and cross country, specializing in distance races. Ella loves being a part of the Harriers program and is excited to help coaching this summer!

Jane Shannon
Jane will be going into her junior year at Benet Academy this fall. She has run cross country and track and played basketball for Benet. She went to Notre Dame School, where she ran both cross country and track from 5th to 8th grade. She is excited to coach Harriers again this summer!

Claire Sigmund
Claire is a junior at Nazareth Academy where she is a member of both the XC and track teams. She started her running career in middle school and currently holds the 400m school record at Clarendon Hills Middle School. Claire was a member of Nazareth’s 4x800m state qualifying relay in 2024 and was a qualifier at both the Illinois Indoor Championships and the IHSA state meet in the 400m in 2025. Claire is excited to coach with the Harriers!

Evelyn Skay
Evelyn is a senior at Hinsdale Central where she competes on the cross country and track teams. Last fall, she set a 3 Mile PR of 18:42 while competing with her team at the IHSA 3A State Championship meet. Evelyn is a graduate of Clarendon Hills Middle School where she competed in cross country, track. She participated and placed 19th in the 2021 SZR State Cross Country Meet and 4th in the 2022 West Suburban Cross Country Conference Championship. She has loved running with the Harriers and looks forward to helping coach.

Owen Tims
Owen is a junior at Hinsdale Central High School . He ran track and cross country at Clarendon Hills Middle School, winning conference and having a great time with his friends. Owen also ran track last year in high school. He has been with the West Suburban Harriers since 6th grade and loves the program. This will be Owen’s fourth year coaching and he is very excited to be back this summer!
